Among his long list of accomplishments Humboldt was known as a geographer, naturalist, botanist, explorer, and illustrator. Between 1799 and 1804, Humboldt traveled extensively in North and South America, exploring and describing them for the first time from a modern scientific point of view. He published his findings in 30 volumes of work. He was also the first person to describe the phenomenon and cause of human-induced climate change, in 1800.
